THE DIGITAL MAN

Everyone has left their mark on the endless, digital network of this world. The traces make us visible on the internet, but also transparent. How far do you want to go this way?
The picture “The Digital Man” deals with this. The head shown is a dummy, interchangeable, emotionless, a Mister Smith. The zeros and ones cast their shadows on it. He cannot escape from his digital cage and thus cannot escape the shadow ...
By the way, the machine code of the orb contains my contact details ;-)

Do not adjust your tv sets :)

This one grew as the evening went on. I started with a little blade rotation, then added the tv element and finished off with the hands cupping the rotation.

Double blind pan for this one (one for the inner hands and one for the blade rotation) which made it a little more challenging. I needed to use the same flash guns on different powers and positions, then get my hands placed in exactly the right spot so they looked as if they were holding the light and so as not to fall outside the tv screen.

www.lightpaintingbrushes.com 9" diamond blade modded with marker pens to mimic the colours of the gels used on the flashes.

Lauren very kindly offered to be my flash popper and torch-monger. She's a good un.

Single long exposure light art shot in complete darkness.

Raw conversion with a drop of the shadows and blacks, boost in contrast and some other minor touches in LR.

Happy days.

Dan (Chick) Roberts God I love your work
Fallen.

Awesome night out tonight with Tei who I've not seen for an age. Was great to catch up over a couple of courses of lp.
This one is a progression of my last post but with a tilt to increase the size of the dead space in the middle rotation.
I did what I thought was a more polished version straight after this but I hadn't leveled the camera after my last rotation and Tei was stood on a slope.

Top night out buddy and we'll not have to leave it so long next time.

John Reilly This is lovely and different! Has an underwater feel to it. I’m guessing it’s a shower and if I’m right it’s all that more impressive! I do a lot of shots in the shower but that’s because my tools sometimes have catastrophic failures!
Tim Gamble Cheers John. It's shot with me on the other side of an old office chair mat. I often think the same about the underwater vibe.
