Midjourney AI crushed my love for light painting. I'm trying to revive it.
I came up with an idea for a picture and was trying to describe it to someone without success. I used ChatGPT to try to I used chat GPT to try to create a reference photo and this is what I came up with.
100% not created in camera , although I will share another post if I ever get around shooting this!

It was time to rebuild the site, and it just happened!
October 2026 marks the launch of the new and improved lightpainters.com site.
The new site is mobile friendly and built on modern design practices. The map is better with variable levels of zoom, in finding people is easier than ever!
There is more to come but this is an exciting start!

Check out the new Global collaboration at pieceout.com, where people request specific parts of the image, lightpaint them, upload them again and we create a giant light painting mosaic! It's like the one we did two years ago for Vincent Van Gogh's starry night, for international day of light.

Shot at a Colorado Light Painting meetup. Light by @lightandlense and a remix in the camera by me, with Fractal Filter prisms. Heather Heath and (I forget) are models.

Proper love this craziness.
When light painters shoot events.... Making use of available light, shot in 2.0 seconds using a first-curtain flash and then kinetic camera movement.

@ethereallightart had been trying to find somebody to help him with the shot for a year. Basically he wanted to recreate the bullet Dodge scene from The Matrix, only using Roman candles. I haven't done a lot of trying to hit it, or miss, targets with Roman candles but I obliged. We did a couple shots and then he said "hit me a couple times" , so I did. Captured on the camera of @gunnarheilmann as well as a few others.
